Mud King Tires, Really the King?
August 13, 2010 by Nate
So they are named after royalty, the mud king tires, well are they really that? Are they the king of the mud? BF Goodrinch is the mud king tires manufacturer and they have long been known for reliable tires. Unfortunately, as with all good things, they come to an end – as it is with the mud king tires. They are no longer made and purchasing them on-line is virtually impossible. So now what? Well mud king tires are now known as mud terrain tires are while they are a little different they are more the same.
Mud king truck tires were meant to displace the mud through a series of channels created by the tire treads. This allows the mud to be moved out of the way effectively while allowing maximum contact for the tire to the ground itself. The mud terrain line of tires does the same thing but has an added amount of tread that has proven to be more effective over the years.
What makes the mud king tires so popular is that they are specially designed for small to medium size trucks, and since this fits the description of most trucks out there, this is the tire of choice for those looking to get something other than the stock tires that come with the truck.
Here are some of the benefits of the mud king tires:
- Very aggressive tread pattern.
- Capabilities for stud-pins.
- Construction made for the off-road environment.
- Twin steel belts as well as a polyester cord body.
- Beautiful traction both on and off-road.
- Effective ability to control traction in various conditions.
- Puncture and bruise resistant giving you confidence in its long term ability to hold its own.
- Above average tread life.
The mud terrain tires now offered add to these functions but deliver them in an even more efficient way with new tread designs and manufacturing capabilities.
The mud king tires do have some downsides you need to be aware of. First and foremost is the fuel efficiency, or lack thereof. With the increase to the circumference of the tire there is more distance to travel and the engine has to work harder to turn the tire. This leads to a loss in fuel efficiency. The 35 mud king tires are the worst when it comes to smooth and comfortable ride, they often make noise and add to the rigidity of the vehicle. So if you are not used to having large truck tires this will be an adjustment for you for sure.

A lot of ATV tires new models are designed in such a way which the mud tires can clean themselves up as they spin in sludge. It sounds very interesting, right? But it works. An example is the Phantom Mud King mud tires to keep you go through the small and big mud holes.
