Buckshot Tires

August 31, 2010 by

Buckshot tires are made and manufactured by Maxxis of Taiwan.  They have locations in every hemisphere in the world and over 22,000 employees.  They make car, light truck, atv, off-road and even bicycle tires.  The company prides itself in applying strict standards of moral and ethical value in order to produce the best product.  Whether or not that translates into an actual superior product is up for debate.  They are highly touted as the best, most versatile tires for off-roading.

Buckshot Tires

So the tires are actually called the Maxxis Buckshot Mudder tires and they get their high level of performance from the aggressive groove patterns built into the tires and side walls.  The tread is designed to float across the surface rather than digging down into the ground.  The reason that works is because the tread is wide enough to collect significant amounts of the sand or mud but shallow enough to prevent the tire from digging more ground than is necessary to propel the vehicle across the terrain.

The tires also perform well on other surfaces like wet roads and or on snow, again because of the tread design.  Think of the treads as shovels on your tire, the bigger the shovel the more debris can be moved.  The space between the shovels also becomes critical because the larger the space between the shovels the less can be moved.  If you combine those elements, a shorter shovel, spaced not too close together but not too far apart the tire will shovel a decent amount of dirt while not over removing dirt.

Buckshot mudder tires will range between $400 and $800 for a set of 4 but that will not include shipping or installation.  If you plan to install these things yourself you better be considered a master tire technician otherwise installing tires that are not balanced can ruin things from axels to drive trains.  The Buckshot Mudders can be purchased at local tire stores that may cost a little more up-front but will also usually come with a warranty, roadside and wear guarantees.

Look here is the deal, Buckshot tires are amazing, and can really improve the performance of your car, truck, atv or bike – but you need to be careful and make sure you get them from the right place and for the right price.  The internet offers you the opportunity to shop around, but in the end there are only 2 ways to make sure you are protected.

1) If you are VERY familiar with tires, mounting and balancing and feel 100% confident in your ability to make the installation.

2) If you purchase the Buckshot mud tires from a reputable dealer that has the capacity to install them professionally on your car.
